What's Different About Remodeling an Existing Basement

Expect a few surprises behind the walls

Older finishes can hide water stains, outdated wiring, or work that was never permitted. We look for warning signs during the consultation and build some contingency into the plan, so a surprise doesn't stall the project.

Decide what stays

Not everything has to go. Solid framing, working ductwork, or a newer bathroom can often stay in place, which keeps costs down and shortens the schedule.

Bring it up to today's code

Anything we open up gets brought up to current code. If an old rec room is becoming a basement bedroom, that includes adding an egress window.

Fix the water first

Musty smells and stained drywall are signs of a moisture problem that new finishes won’t solve. If we find one, basement waterproofing comes before anything new goes in.
